ISHRAE - PUNE CHAPTER
Establishment
ISHRAE was founded in 1981 in Delhi with the aims and objectives similar to those of ASHRAE. Till the year 1990 Seven Chapters had been established in various metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad.
In the era of industrial growth in the country Pune had emerged as an important growth centre for Air-conditioning and Refrigeration industry. The seniors working in the field were toying with the idea of setting up an association of engineers and other people connected with HVAC&R industry. During the kick-off meeting in the year 1992 it was suggested by Mr. Arvind Surange, who was a member of ISHRAE Bangalore Chapter, that the proposed association could be a part of the ISHRAE society and this was accepted by all concerned. As a coincidence Mr. S L Agarwal, who was the Director of ISHRAE Western region in Mumbai was also planning for the establishment of the Chapter in Pune. He contacted Mr. Arvind Surange & Mr. A N Mathur and a meeting was organised in Pune to decide the modalities of formation of Chapter. During this meeting Mr. Agarwal requested Mr. Surange, who was also the President of Rotary Club of Poona North at that time to lead the new Chapter.
The Pune Chapter was established on 2nd April 1993 with the support of senior members like Mr. R P Paranjpey, Mr. Uttam Kashid, Mr. Bhagwan Harani and others. Initially the chapter started with just 20 members. Mr. Bhagwan Harani who was actively associated in formation of chapter took over as the first secretary of the chapter. The formal office of ISHRAE was located at Mr. Surange’s office at Deccan Gymkhana and later shifted to it’s present location at Erandwana. It must be acknowledged that apart from the office bearers of ISHRAE headquarters the members of Rotary Club of Poona North also extended valuable support in formation of ISHRAE Pune Chapter and its activities during the start up time.
