The Genesis of ISHRAE Pune Chapter
In the early 1990s, with rapid industrial expansion, Pune emerged as a critical growth center for the refrigeration, air conditioning, and manufacturing industries. Senior HVAC&R engineering professionals recognized the urgent need for a professional society to foster technical advancement and peer collaboration.
During a 1992 preliminary meeting, Mr. Arvind Surange proposed forming a dedicated chapter under the national ISHRAE umbrella. Concurrently, Mr. S. L. Agarwal (Director of ISHRAE Western Region in Mumbai) initiated the charter process. The ISHRAE Pune Chapter was formally established on 2nd April 1993 with 20 charter members, led by Mr. Arvind Surange (Charter President) and Mr. Bhagwan Harani (Charter Secretary), with pivotal support from stalwarts including Mr. R. P. Paranjpey and Mr. Uttam Kashid.
From humble beginnings at Deccan Gymkhana supported by the Rotary Club of Poona North, the chapter has evolved into one of India's most vibrant and awarded engineering chapters, headquartered at its permanent facility in Erandwana, Pune.
